DRIFT TRAINING AT THE PRODRIFT ACADEMY
The Prodrift Academy Drift Training program has been designed to prepare students for professional drift competitions and to share the knowledge of how to be competitive at professional drift events.
The program has been divided into 4 categories over 10 levels(rookie, amateur, semi-pro, pro) and each level has been designed to give student’s step-by-step training of the key drift techniques utilized by professional drifters.
Just like a video game, the challenge for the Prodrift Academy students is to keep leveling up until finishing the full 10 level program. Along the levels the students will be rewarded with level completion gifts such as t-shirts, gloves, certificates, race shirts etc. At the final level, the student will be challenged to take on the infamous British Drift Championship circuit, Teeside Autodrome.
The Prodrift Academy prides itself on delivering a world class training program. As each Prodrift Academy student is an individual, we customize our training program to suit the student’s specific requirements. Prodrift will create a customized training program based on the clients experience and goals. As with any technique sport the key to learning how to be a professional drifter is technique and practice. The Prodrift Academy training format is a step by step process and is beginner friendly.
Prodrift will create an individual training plan for every student based on what they want to achieve. This plan will track the students progress as they climb the levels and highlight the strengths and weaknesses of their skill set.
If the student has some prior drift experience, upon arrival to the training facility they will complete a drift assessment. Their existing drift skills will be added to their file and a customized training plan will then be created.

Program Design: Kieran Hynes
The Prodrift Academy training program has been designed and developed by the one of the most internationally recognized drift judges in the world, Kieran Hynes. Kieran is the head judge of the BDC, IDC, ODC and Drift Masters. He has created this training program to prepare Prodrift Academy students to be instantly competitive when entering a professional drift event.
Training program: 4 key principles
The key principles of the Prodrift Academy training program are all based on professional drift event judging criteria.
The 4 key principles of the Prodrift Academy training program are:
The most important judged criteria of any professional drift event is Drift Line. It defines the position of the drift car in the corner as specified by the judges. A driver will be deducted heavily if they maneuver away from the Drift line.
A drift competitor who has good speed throughout a drift course will be very difficult to chase and rewarded by the judges. Grip is a major factor when finding speed and competing in a professional drift event.
Drivers are scored on the amount of angle their car carries through the course.
The maximum amount of angle is not important, it is how the angle is maintained throughout the run.
Style is a subjective judging criteria. It differs from country to country. The Prodrift Academy cannot teach style but we can assist our students in understanding how to create a style of their own.
Training Venue: Birmingham Training Facility
The Prodrift Academy Birmingham Training Facility has been created to allow our students maximum track time in order to perfect their drift technique. The facility is equipped with a technique skidpad, drift oval, briefing room, hospitality area, coffee shop and workshop. The venue is open 7 days a week and is 5 minutes from Birmingham City Center.
Cars: Drift car training fleet
The Prodrift Academy has 2 categories of drift vehicle in its fleet, training and pro cars.
We predominately utilize the Nissan 350z & Mazda Mx5 as our training and professional vehicles. The Nissan Z chassis has all the characteristics of a reliable drift car. Torque, chassis strength, heat dispersion, strong drivetrain, parts availability and style.
The Mazda MX5’s are used for technique training on our low friction skidpad.
At the Prodrift Academy we train our students over multiple levels at a time. The maximum a student can train is 3 levels in one day(4 hours). Example: Level 1, 2 and 3.
A 4 hour training program costs £999 per person
1 day, 2 day and 3 day training packages are available.
Alternatively a student can train one level at a time for a price of: £279.00 per level

LEVEL 1: Drift a Corner (Track 1 skidpad)
Starting with the most important basic drift techniques, Level 1 has been designed to provide students with the essential techniques required to become a drifter.
Course Content: Handbrake Initiation, Counter Steer, Throttle Balance, Full Corner Drift, Inner Clipping point
LEVEL 2: Drift Line to Transition (Track 1 skidpad)
The Prodrift Academy’s Level 2 course takes the skills our students have learned from Level 1, and builds on them focusing on precision and consistency with Drift Line. Here we see the introduction of clipping points, inside and outside which leads into the downhill transition.
Course Content: Drift line, Positioning The Car Mid Drift, Inner and Outer Clipping point, Transition
LEVEL 3: Extension, Consistency and Graduation (Track 1 skidpad)
Level 3 transition utilizes the skills learned throughout Level’s 1 and 2, and combines them in order to master the Level 3 course. Here we focus on two of the most important aspects of drift technique, weight transfer & extension.
Course Content: Drift line, Transition, Inertia, Weight Transfer, Extension, Throttle Control, Wall Run (‘soft wall’), Scrubbing Speed, Consistency.

DRIFT TRAINING – Amateur (Training cars)
In the amateur training program our students now progress from our technique training skidpad to the infield and our drift oval.
LEVEL 4: Infield (Track 2 infield)
At Level 4, the student has progressed to achieve a level of drifting consistency on our drift technique skidpad. They will now have to adapt to their drift technique to a new high grip surface. Reactions times will now be put to the test as the grip levels increase.
Course Content: Drift line, transition, inertia, weight transfer, extension, throttle control
LEVEL 5: Figure of 8 (Track 2 infield)
At level 5 the students will be challenged to achieving perfect balance in order to complete a figure of 8 drift.
Course Content: Drift Line, deceleration, tuck in, precision
LEVEL 6: Infield + Oval (Grip & Speed – track 2)
The final step on our Amateur training program, students are now ready to complete the amateur course layout. At Level 6 we now change the layout of the track and start to focus on finding speed through grip. Once the student has mastered the new layout we begin to time the course runs.
Course Content: Drift line, deceleration, line correction, throttle control, grip level, timed runs
DRIFT TRAINING – Semi Pro (Pro cars)
The Semi Professional program has been designed for students who want to enter the world of drift competition. Here, the students will transition from our training cars to our professional drift cars.
LEVEL 7: Wall run (track 3 oval) Pro Car
In level 7 the course will change for a third time as we begin to introduce high speed transitions onto a wall run(coned wall). As with any professional championship a driver must know how to position his/her car along a wall without crashing. This technique is essential for competition drifting.
Course info: Speed transitions, Brake modulation, throttle adjustment, wall run, throttle control
LEVEL 8: Technique Re-cap (Track 3 oval) Pro Car
The students will now begin to drive our professional drift cars and learn to adapt their driving style to a car with extra rear grip. An aggressive driving style is now required as the car will attempt to grip at every corner.
Course info: All techniques
LEVEL 9: Drift Event
For level 9, the Prodrift academy team will simulate a professional drift event to acclimatize our student to the event format of professional drifting.
We will assist the student, step by step as to how an event schedule works and how to prepare their car and team.
- Spotter meetings
- Car setup
- Driver briefing
- Track walk
- Prize giving
